25th Anniversary of the Challenger Accident
On January 28, 2011, the Challenger Learning Center at Paducah honored the memory of the Challenger crew by having the winner of the 25th Anniversary essay contest bring his class to the center to spend the day with Col. Terry Wilcutt, Kentucky’s only astronaut. Braxton Nelson, a fifth grader at Reidland Elementary, placed first in the contest that had over 60 entries. Braxton and his class flew a mission to Mars in the morning. After having lunch, they listened to Col. Wilcutt speak about his experiences as an astronaut. Each student received an autograph picture.
